PEPP
PEPP is a partnership program between Penn State University and McKeesport Area School District. PEPP Academy is an after school program in which students from the Penn State Greater Allegheny campus in McKeesport come to Founders' Hall during their Fall and Spring semesters. The purpose of the program is to assist 7th and 8th grade students in the development and enhancement of academic and personal skills through: turoring/mentoring; presentations; test preparation and studying; review of class work; field trips; and summer camps.

PEPP is designed fro students who display a genuine interest in doing well academically and want to do better. Students must have a "C" average or better, and must be positive members of the school community.

Y-I-STA

Youth Involved in Science, Technology, and the Arts

Our mission is to provide a safe place to actively engage students in a variety of enrichment activities that are geared to enhance academic achievement.

Y-I-STA  offers after school programs for students in grades 7 through 10.  Programming for students in grades 7 and 8 ends at 5:45 each day, Monday through Friday. The High School program’s schedule begins at dismissal until 5:30 Monday through Thursday.  At least once a month, there will be opportunities for all students to participate in Saturday activities such as field trips and special events.  Each day after school, students will receive a nutritious snack, a tutorial session (which includes homework help), an enrichment activity period and a physical activity period. Transportation home is provided.

Regular programming includes many topics such as leadership training and mentoring, performing and visual arts, science and technology, outdoor activities, physical fitness, and much more!  In addition to these daily enrichment activities, students have the opportunity to complete their homework during the tutorial sessions and have a chance to hone their skills on web-based remediation programs in reading and math to help prepare for the PSSA assessments.  The instructors of our programs are a combination of local experts and the highly trained staff members of McKeesport Area School District.

There is no cost to attend any part of this program, since funding is provided by the Pennsylvania Department of Education through the 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant.

If you are interested in joining us, please contact your school’s Main Office to receive an application or contact Mr. Kastronis at Founders’ Hall (412-664-3690 X 2114).
