All About McKeesport Area High School and Technology Center
School Colors: Red and Blue
School Mascot: Tiger
Through its long history, the high school has been named and renamed and nicknamed several times over. McKeesport High School, Tech High, Voc, South Hall, North Hall. They've all had their day.
When this new high school was completed in September of 1961, the School Board named it McKeesport Senior High School. From 1967 until 1983, the building was known as McKeesport Area Senior High School (MASH) whereupon the "senior" was dropped in 1984. From 1984 until now, it has been known as McKeesport Area High School.
The high school became a Grade 9-12 building with the start of the 2000-2001 school year. In 2003-2004, new additions to the high school building provided room for the five remaining vocational/technical classes that were housed at North Hall. Culinary Arts, Cosmetology, Building Construction, Auto Body, and Auto Mechanics are now all a part of the comprehensive high school that offers its entire academic and vocational/technical curriculum under one roof.
Highlights of the high school project included a modern Tiger Inn restaurant for the culinary arts program, new cosmetology labs, an expanded graphic occupations department, modern office areas for the vocational/technical program, and an expanded physical fitness area, along with, much needed, additional classroom space.
Upgrades were also made to the Weigle-Schaeffer Tiger Stadium that features new restroom facilities to the visitor side of the field, a new artificial grass field, and an updated all weather track that includes specialized areas to conduct field events.
No matter what the name, no matter what the year, when graduates are asked where they attended high school, the answer still is simply "McKeesport." Whether students spent their days at Shaw Avenue School (the first district building erected solely for use as a high school) or at "Tech High" on Cornell Street and Bailie Avenue, or at the current structure on Eden Park Boulevard, McKeesport High alumni all share one thing: pride in their school. "Once a Tiger, Always a Tiger" still resonates with alumni young and old.
Technology Center
The McKeesport Area Technology Center serves the youth of the McKeesport School District. Our mission is to provide quality vocational education programs to 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students of all ability levels. This is done through the newly-developed competency-based curriculum.
The Technology Center is intended for those students who wish to prepare for an immediate occupation with increased earning capability following graduation, as well as for those students who may wish to pursue higher education.
The McKeesport Area School District espouses the School-to-Work philosophy which includes both school and work-based components.
THE SCHOOL-BASED COMPONENT involves educational programs such as Tech Prep. The goal of Tech Prep is to emphasize academics in math, science, and communications, along with technical education. Tech Prep begins in the eleventh grade and is extended to a post-secondary school. This gives students the necessary background to obtain a specialized Associate Degree, which can lead to a four-year Bachelor Degree.
THE WORK-BASED COMPONENT includes a variety of job training and internships that are relevant to a career choice. Partnerships are formed between the school district and local business/industry to provide work experiences, mentoring, and instruction in general workplace skills.
THE CONNECTING ACTIVITIES COMPONENT offers community based experiences which count towards the Senior Project.

Directions
FROM PITTSBURGH VIA THE PARKWAY:
Take parkway to Exit 8A (Forest Hills). Follow Route 30 to East McKeesport. Turn right onto Route 148. Follow through three lights and turn left onto Hartman Street. Go through light at the top of the hill and make the next right into the school.
FROM PITTSBURGH VIA ROUTE 51:
Follow Lebanon Church Road past the Allegheny County Airport into the City of McKeesport. Go through a series of signal lights and at the third signal light past the Duquesne-East McKeesport ramp, turn right onto Hartman Street. Go straight at the signal light at the top of the hill and the high school is on the right.
FROM SOUTH ON ROUTE 51:
Follow Route 51 North to Route 48. Turn right onto Route 48 and follow into Versailles Borough. Just past the Olympia Shopping Center, Route 48 bears to the right. Don't turn here! Continue straight on Route 148 and turn right at the next signal light onto Eden Park Boulevard. Go through one signal light and the school and stadium will be three blocks on the left side of the road.
FROM TURNPIKE:
Get off at the Monroeville Exit and follow Route 22 to Route 48. Turn left on Route 48 and follow to Route 30. Cross over Route 30 and at the second signal light, turn right onto Lincoln Way. Two blocks past the third signal light, turn left on O'Neil Boulevard. Follow to the next light and turn left onto Eden Park Boulevard. Make a quick right into the school.
